Over the course of a month (February 2011), I recorded the food staples I was consuming every day. I ate in most of the month to fully monitor what was going on and off my plate. While there's a lot of things I don't eat (as most friends are annoyed by), this diagram really presents a plethora of ingredients my body is taking in. It's somewhat amazing how many different things we can eat...and even more astonishing how those elements are combined with one another to compose the perfect or desired meal. While this visualization isn't too revolutionary, I was just really happy to see I like my vegetables. Daytum was very helpful in logging my substances.
Most people don't find me to be the ideal eating partner even though I'm a food-network enthusiast. First, I've been a pescatarian for almost eight years, I'm lactose intolerant, and for my alcohol-loving colleagues...I don't drink beer. I eat fish about once every two weeks and I try to keep away from preserved foods (besides the jar of peanut butter I just bought for the first time in four months last week). I don't buy refined sugars or sweets (I like them but not allowed in my home kitchen). As we age, so do our stomachs. You probably would have never guessed at one point I was a fan of bologna sandwiches on Wonder Bread with Better Maid potato chips. While a lot of this seemed limiting, I thought a visualization would prove that it isn't.
